Celebrating the success of The Children’s Choir of Lancaster’s 11th anniversary here in the Red Rose City, they proudly present their season’s grand finale: “Bridges to Peace” with special guest artists a Celtic music duo offering traditional live Irish music and the talented traditional Irish dancers of Lancaster County’s very own Hooley School of Irish Dance.

In this concert, the two choirs which comprise the Children’s Choir of Lancaster, the Prelude Choir, singers grades three to six and the Lyric Choir, singers grades seven to 12 will be joined by the Irish duo “Magill” and the Hooley School of Irish Dance. “Magill” is a high-energy musical duo made up of Gavin Harding, who was born and raised in Ireland and Justin Cook, a Scottish American. Between them they have performed throughout the US and Ireland. This high-energy duo loves audience participation, live spontaneous music-making and sharing the stories behind the music. Harding and Cook will be bringing Irish flare in grand style to the performance. They will involve the choir and audience in impromptu music making, and traditional group sing-alongs interspersed with storytelling and perhaps an instrumental piece or two.

CCL Lyric Choir Director, Drue M. Bullington defines the concert theme, “The concept grows from all the songs on the program having an overtone of finding peace in our world in a variety of ways– one central way we find peace is through making music and participating in the arts. Rounding out the concert with a cultural connection, we are thrilled to share the stage with the Hooley School of Irish Dance who perform a choreographed Irish dance to music made by both Magill and the Lyric Choir—the infectious Irish tune, “Tell My Ma.” To further delight the concert-goers, the Hooley Dancers will also perform a few unique selections on their own.

This concert is going to be unlike any other in Lancaster this spring. CCL President, David Moser says, “ We invite you to join with both our young and veteran musicians to share an exciting, innovative concert experience filled with culture and traditions seen through many lenses: The celebrated Lancaster Children’s Choir, the live interactive traditional Irish music stylings of Magill, and the captivating dancers of the Hooley School of Irish Dance.”

In addition to the music, CCL is also having its annual Silent Auction Fundraiser at this event. Concertgoers will have an opportunity to bid on numerous gift certificates for shows, theater events, opera performance, music and vocal lessons, an IPod Touch, a photography package, museum passes, additional programs and more. Items available for the silent auction are provided to support CCL by Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, Rainbow Dinner Theater, Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, Touch for Health Therapeutic Massage, Opera Lancaster, Fulton Theater, Hampton Inn, Henry Mechanical Incorporated, North Museum of Natural History and Science, Popovsky Performing Arts Studio, Darrenkamp’s Food Market, Hempfield Area Recreation Commission, Mary Kay, Capturing Fireflies Photography, Alure Salon, Dove Chocolate and Claire’s.

Registration for the silent auction will take place 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. on May 5. After registering, concert attendees may place bids from 3:00 p.m. to the concert intermission. Successful bidders will pick up their items after the concert about 9:00 p.m. or Monday, May 7 at choir rehearsal 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

The concert and silent auction will be held Saturday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hempfield United Methodist Church, 3050 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster. Light refreshments will follow the performance. Admission is free. Donations accepted and a free will offering will be taken.
